"Grandchildren are the crown of the aged." ~ Proverbs 17:16

"Grandmothers are just antique little girls."  ~ Author Unknown

There will be days when your 'Little Apprentice' visits, here are several ideas or suggestions which you can use to keep those little creative minds and hands busy. We have created several fun and interactive puzzles which you can learn to play together.

You will notice that these puzzles are geared towards learning and teaching simple concepts about art, such as light, color, details etc. These puzzles are of different skill levels, you will be the better judge of which puzzle is the most suitable to begin with.

While you build the puzzles together, may we suggest that you ask questions that are art related, such as, " Where do you think the light is coming from?' What color is the fish?" begin to use simple art terminology and you will be surprised to see how fast they will learn this new and interesting language. Soon you may have a new buddy to share your 'art appreciation' with.

A visit to Grammar's house can be more than just a chance to play with special toys. It can become a place to explore artistic ideas and make new discoveries. By nature, youngsters want to explore, they want to challenge and to make their way in the world. Grandparents can be their 'sign posts' along the journey.

Artistic discoveries can happen when you least expect them to...

To the edge of time...

What a huge world it must seem to the 'Little Apprentice'.

A place to discover everything and with each opportunity a chance to learn and nurture a potential life long passion.

A visit to the edge of time - The Grand Canyon could be such a memory to cherish forever. As artistic grandparents, and parents, a visits to places such as this provides opportunity to teach our little ones about light, shadow, distance, shape and form. Every view could be a potential painting lesson. We must teach little ones how to daydream, for this is the key to their present and future creativity.

A farm visit can provide us with a world of questions, and multitudes of conversation between 'Little Apprentices and ourselves. How the light plays off the feathers of the geese, the texture of the baby duck's soft downy feathers, the soft buttery yellow hues that make them so sweet and lovable. We will be bombarded with,"How's, why's and how come's?" Each of these questions helps us teach little ones how to develop their own imaginations. Even the patterns on the mottled hen's feathers, all of these minute details can teach our 'wee' ones how to 'see' things in a new and interesting light.

The pumpkin patch...

A Fall trip to the local pumpkin patch can provide fun and interesting materials for both of you to photograph together. Provide your 'Little Apprentice' with a disposable camera of their own, and let them take photographs that can be painted at a later date with your input and guidance.

Children love to be read to...Why not suggest reading art books?

We have selected books that all share an art theme, this way you can begin to teach your 'Little Apprentice' about the great Masters of art.

Please visit our library section under the 'resource link'. Here we have listed some of our favorite books for children.

Don't forget to encourage discussion and ask questions about the books you share. Soon this will become a favorite past time between the two of you.

Look at the Children's section of our Reference Library for ideas on subjects and topics...
