Our Vision ...
.................................................................................
The Art Apprentice Online has a vision is to become an accessible and inclusive ‘Online Resource’ engaged in developing and delivering programs for learning in order to improve the painting experience.
The History of Puzzles...

Puzzles were first created by an English map maker by the name of John Spilsbury in 1760. They were first used to teach geography to young children and were primarily used for educational purposes.

An inexpensive toy to make, this game soon became very popular because it could be played alone or as a group activity.

Early Puzzles...

The earliest puzzles were made by gluing the image to thin plywood and cutting out the shapes with a jigsaw. Today, the standard jigsaw puzzle is made from cardboard and the pieces are cut by large machines.

The computer jigsaw puzzle...

Today we have another type of puzzle, the computer jigsaw puzzle and these fun and interactive puzzles are once again being used for education. The Art Apprentice Online has created these original images geared to your Little Apprentice. There are many benefits to this kind of game.

Of course, there are no swallowed pieces, no lost... 'last' piece to finish the puzzle, and nothing to get sucked up into the vacuum cleaner!! These are easy and very entertaining for little hands once they learn to use the computer mouse!

We will be adding new puzzles from time to time. So check back often to see what's new.

Puzzles are very beneficial to the child and adult artist. First, they are relaxing, but the key is their ability to teach hand eye coordination, the power of observation, attention to details and to see color relationships. One cannot play a puzzle without calling on these skills. For the young child they are a very important method for teaching the skills necessary for developing the artist's ability to 'see'.

  • Observation and attention to detail is a fundamental trait of the artist.
  • Puzzles help the child focus on the small details that might otherwise be missed.
  • Connecting lines, tones and tints of color, aligning shapes and fitting the pieces together are similar to creating a whole painting, bit by bit...piece by piece...
  • Computer puzzles can entertain children on rainy days and if they are feeling, 'under the weather'.
  • When using computer generated puzzles, teach the youngster how to use the mouse to manipulate the puzzle pieces.
