‘I am not a teacher; only a fellow traveler of whom
you asked the way. I pointed ahead, ahead of myself as well as of
you.’ ~ George Bernard Shaw |

Like this quote states, this group of artists see themselves
only as fellow travelers along the journey of artistic self discovery.
The creators
of ‘The Art Apprentice Online’ have made a
connection over the last few years – one that speaks of their
mutual appreciation for art and art education with its vast histories. They decided to pursue their mutual interest by developing an interactive
online resource through which they can share their passion for
learning with other artists. |
|
| |
They have been asked what brought them together? They are individual artists who shared the same dream and vision for an online art community of this nature. They have worked together to create and build this resource, pooling their individual skills and ideas in-order to help each another fulfill their individual goals and vision for this new online resource. |
|
| |
They have dedicated their time to the planning and architecture of this website,
collecting and writing its content and building its resources to share them
with others.
This website has involved hundreds of hours
of research and study. They have also put their heads together to create support materials
for your teaching and learning enjoyment. |

As individual artists they have each persued unique paths, however they have also enjoyed working together with many other artists on collaborative projects. In two thousand and four, this group of five was also involved with other artists
from across the United States and Canada who were invited to the Jansen
Art Studio in Pennsylvania, USA. David Jansen, MDA, the creator
of the Traditions paint system also had a vision for education.
He invited several artists to assist him in creating and to co-author
an educational art program. Many months later, in February of two
thousand and five, after teamwork and mutual collaboration, the
Traditions Education Program was developed and brought
to the public. The rest is history... |

It has been and continues to be an exciting time for these artists as they worked
the sections of this new web site. Considering the mission they set out on,
as you can well imagine it has been a true labor of love. They are optimistic
that their love of art will help them grow their art community, if even in small
ways. They invite you to travel the journey with them as they work to make
connections between the past and the present. They invite you to network with them
as they discover what lies on the road ahead. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
As
you can guess it has been a hectic few of years for each of them.
They all have the support of their families! They
continue to work with David Jansen, MDA and the Heritage Team in furthering the goals
of the Traditions Education Program. |

The Hummingbird ~ Our 'Mascot'

| |
The Hummingbird and the Art Apprentice Online |
|
| |
The hummingbird has been an important symbolic messenger as it represents energy, renewal, continuity and its ability to spread pure joy. Just as this little bird gathers nectar from the flowers, artists stop for a moment to gather knowledge from each other and share the artistic experiences they encounter through life. Ancient peoples believed that the hummingbird had the ability to guide others with its unique skills at flying. Similarly, we believe that art teachers act as guides for their students and like the artwork itself, the hummingbird symbolizes its permanence for eternity. For us at the Art Apprentice Online, we embrace this tiny creature to symbolize our shared artistic communications. |
