Choosing A Course has never been so easy - All courses at the AAO are broken into skill categories to make this as simple as possible for you to select your classes. The course you select depends on your goals and if you have any prior experience with painting. Art Courses at the AAO are the best value for your dollar. Where else can you watch your instructor paint through a lesson, from start to finish and at close range? AND don't forget...you can watch them paint it over and over by replaying the videos as many times as you need. Learning to paint with the video portions of our online courses removes the fear of missing any of the demonstration stages of the course. Course videos can be watched as many times as needed so there is no confusion about any of the steps.

If you have never painted before, and feel like the 'new beginner', we advise starting with a basic foundation prior to taking on a large study without any prior experience.

There are several short courses that will help you get off the ground and understand the tools of the trade, i.e. - brushes, easels, paint, etc. There are color theory courses that are of great value in helping you with mixing, and understanding the overall basic concepts of color. These also help you gain an overall understanding of the language of the artist, making your new journey into painting an easy ride with lots of enjoyment along the way. These courses will give you an important 'leg up' with learning to paint.

Course Suggestions:

There are many progressive courses designed to concentrate on a specific 'field of study'. For example, if painting wildlife subjects is a 'field of study' you have always wanted to learn, you may want to enroll in the course that teaches how to paint 'fur'. They are listed here for your convenience. There are many courses that are listed as 'theory'. These courses are designed to give you a full understanding of 'why' certain principles or techniques work the way they do. These courses will help you paint anything you want as learned skills and technique are transferable to many other subjects.

Course Suggestions:

These courses are based on your choice of 'subject of interest'. The student (you) may possess prior painting experience and/or you wish to paint for the pure enjoyment of the subject that interests you. These courses focus on the specific subject and you will create a painting based on this focus of the composition. Our instructors will demonstrate to you, step by step, each painting stage via streaming videos, along with step by step photographs to accompany each lesson and make the whole process a real treat for you!

This style of art education courses has been designed for the artist who is serious about learning to paint in a continuous and progressive manner. The Traditions Art Education Program is a comprehensive and in-depth program that takes the novice artist from the very beginning and onwards.

This program offers you a full self-study curriculum for the artist who wishes to persue a step by step methodical art education, laid out for you by experienced teachers and artists.

This program has been developed and is administered by the artists and instructors of the Art Apprentice Online Art School in conjunction with a network of other experienced teachers and artists.
