The Study of Metals, Part 1 - This in-depth introduction to painting different metal surfaces will become an important skill for still life painters. The instructor will teach the student how to approach and describe the surface textures of metals through the changes in value, hue and blending techniques. Metals are often seen and used in still life studies, and the course materials will address one element from each metal group. Several metals will be explained and discussed while being painted on small study canvasses. Students will work on painting exercises that will culminate in six small paintings that include all metal surfaces. Attention will be spent on reflections, shines, patina and palette for each of the metal groups.
